I Spent the Night Alone in England’s Most Haunted Room (Here’s What Happened)

When it comes to ghosts, people usually fall into one of two camps.

On one side, you have the total sceptics—the people who instantly laugh it off as absolute nonsense, the biggest load of crap in the world. On the other side are the believers. They nod along immediately, ready with a personal experience or a story about someone they know who’s seen something.

Then, there’s a much smaller third group: the agnostics in the middle.

For a long time, I comfortably sat right in that middle ground. I loved horror movies like 1408, loved stories about ghost hunters, and enjoyed a solitary night with a good drink. But intellectually, I remained deeply cynical.

So, back when I was writing for newspapers and magazines, I pitched a wild idea to put my middle-ground stance to the ultimate test: I would tour the UK and spend the night alone in the most haunted rooms in England.

Armed with nothing but a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, I set out to take on the creatures of the night and dispel the myths once and for all.
